Among the recent big acquisitions, Kraft Foods acquired Cadburys. Why? the competition is increasing, Cadbury is increasing its product portfolio they are entering into the territories of Kraft Foods; the target market is same, same customers around the world; the strengths of one are the weakness of other, which brings opportunity in the market; both are encountering the common problems and facing common threats; hence the acquisition of Cadburys.
This leads me to think about possible acquisition of a country by another country. Why Pakistan can’t be acquired by India??
Yes, the idea may seem strange and childish, but I have a point to prove. Pakistan is drowning in huge debt, it is fighting with high inflation, it is struggling to grow, it has weak and highly unstable government, it has loose economy. Over the decades India has proved itself, it has vast currency reserves, strong central government, strong economic stability. The weaknesses of Pakistan are strengths of India, so why can’t India acquire Pakistan.
Both India and Pakistan are fighting for last six decades over Kashmir ('the target market' as in Kraft foods analogy), if Pakistan is acquired, no more fight. Now this acquisition would bring another opportunity. Instead of wasting time, energy and Resources and focusing on too much on LoC (Line of Control) the focus would be on strong international boundaries with Afghanistan and other new neighboring countries. Please note that both India’s and Pakistan’s army is deployed at 3000 Kms long international Boundaries between two countries, which can be utilized to guard combined Hindustan against vulnerable Afghanistan.
Acquisitions fail because of the cultural differences between two entities, but India and Pakistan are born from same mother, lived on same soil and similar language. Hence cultural harmony between nations would not result in the failure of the combined Hindustan.
Before the acquiring entity completes acquisition, there are certain tasks that have to be completed, primary task is the removal of bad assets. India and Pakistan combined too can get rid of their bad assets. By bad assets I mean the militant groups active in PoK and in the region of Pakistan. (Pakistanis please don’t behave as of you don’t know about those bad assets). Strong military action is required to remove these bad assets, but they can be removed. These bad assets are doing no good for either of the nations.
Finally, the idea may seem illogical, but I have tried my best to make a point and support it. There are political glitches which can never be solved because of many Jinnah’s and Nehru’s either side across boundaries.

Personally I am not at all convinced with the idea. Acquisition of country and company are very different. There are many points contradicting the thought of India acquiring Pakistan.
ReplyDelete1) There are many international unions which would never let this happen such as UN.
2) International Super Power i.e. USA and the upcoming Super Power China would not let it happen because they will lose a lot of business.
3) Russia would not want it because it will lose business from India.
4) India would never want this because if today we acquire Pakistan, as you mentioned, we will have to clear Pakistan's bad assets which are huge debt, high inflation, weak and highly unstable government and a loose economy. After clearing all the debts, tomorrow some Jinah and Nehru will again grow up and this time full Punjab along with Haryana, H.P. (which includes Solan your Home Sweet Home) and J&K will become Pakistan.
There are many more comments against your thought. But I am running short of time, so will write some time later.
First thing first, let's not call it ACQUISITION, as this very word can lead to a war. So i would better call it a merger.
ReplyDeleteNow assuming it would be possible peacefully then it would be sure be a wonderful thing... because the people of both nations are quite similar in most aspects, and any religious differences can be easily adapted to, adjusted to and accepted by the people of both countries (as we are HUMAN BEINGS and have been given the cerebral power and ability to judge right from wrong and adjust accordingly)
Now the down side,
1) we will lose our best entertainment - India-Pakistan cricket match. A great loss to sports and economy :-)
2) I think the most common cause of merger failure is insufficient leadership and insufficient management intensity to offset the inherent difficulties in putting two organisations of any size and any complexity together. Clearly management of both countries (read politicians) are filled with extremist groups.
3)Target customers (removing unemployment, improving living standards, bringing education etc etc) will still remain out-of-reach or worsen. "The weaknesses of Pakistan are strengths of India," I don't agree. India's USP, its services sector, will be highly impacted if domestic violence increases. And India's strong central government point (I reserve my comments here).
4)Alternative Idea: Instead of burning the dynamite we are sitting on, why not merge with a developed nation.Japan or Australia. Wat say?
I take that Word MERGER from Ashish..
ReplyDeleteI am not saying that India shud go ahead and acquire Pakistan.. its just a thought, and the center idea behind this thought is to get rid of terrorist activities.. At an individual level neither of US, India and Pakistan can erase those camps...
Well US would let this happen because even US is suffocated with terrorism.. UN speaks same language as US.. Russia and China would loose huge business, but for the name of world peace they should agree..
Good thought Sameep. But I see that an "Indian" has written it from his point of view....:-)By that I mean, did it ever strike you that US can support Pak for its funding and give the same offer to India?..Just for thought, I don't wanna hurt anyone's sentiments. However, even if US and China lose their business, US will lose out on their Weaponary supplies to the terrorists as well...I hope you know that...
ReplyDeleteAnyways, liked your idea and was really scared to see Ashish's first comment on the downside....:-)What if there aren't any India-Pakistan matches....Noooo...SCARY!!!
